1. Halloween Family Fright Nights

This Halloween we have sold out our Family Fright Nights

Take a tour by torchlight and watch history come alive. We’ve hidden 5 bats around the house – find them all and win a goody bag! We’ll also be giving away craft kits for you to enjoy at home.

Enjoy a burger or a hotdog at our beautiful outdoor BBQ and bar from 4pm – 7pm.

2. Saturday Fright Night @ NHRM

For those looking for an altogether scarier experience… we will be hosting a Fright Night on Saturday 31st October from 6 pm – 9 pm.

We’ll be dressing the Museum like the set of a horror movie, taking full advantage of our 5-acre indoor and outdoor site.

Warm through with a boozy hot chocolate or mulled cider, and enjoy a burger at our outdoor bar and BBQ from 6 pm – 9 pm

Tickets: Adults – £10 (Free Glass of Wine/Beer if you are in Fancy Dress), children under 16 £2.50 (or FREE in fancy dress)

3. Explore the Good Companions Exhibition

The Good Companions follows a series of distinct themes: Dogs as Companions, Dogs as Heroes and Sporting Dogs.

Among the works on display, are pieces by such luminaries as George Stubbs, William Hogarth, Edwin Landseer, Dame Elisabeth Frink and Sir Alfred Munnings, with depictions of dogs ranging from cheerful mongrels and sleek greyhounds to determined terriers.

Visitors will see representations of artists’ own dogs such as Hogarth’s pug, Trump, along with Philip de László’s Chinky and Sir Alfred Munnings’ Black Knight, both Pekingese.

The exhibition will only be on display for one more week – closes 1st November

4. Pot8os’ Eight O’s trail

Did you know Pot8os’ skeleton was found under a cedar tree at Hare Park, Newmarket?

Join us at NHRM this October half term where you can take part in our Pot8os’ Eight O’s trail. Look around the site and follow the clues to find the eight O’s that make up the spelling of the racehorse’s name

5. Meet the horses in the Rothschild Yard

Meet the 5 residents in the Rothschild Yard including our famous faces – Cheltenham Festival winner Penhill and multiple Group 1 winner Kingsgate Native.

Our latest arrival, Kingsgate Native, stayed with us at the start of 2017 and we are delighted to welcome him back. He was a great sprinter, winning 8 of his starts including the Nunthorpe Stakes as a 2-year-old and the Golden Jubilee Stakes the following year. In 2016, Kingsgate Native retired and moved to a new home at the British Racing School where he teaches students how to ride. He would love to meet you!

6. Take a ride on the racehorse simulator

At NHRM we have transformed our simulator into an immersive experience. Using the latest technology, visitors can find out what it takes to be a jockey.

7. Behind the Scenes tours

Daily ‘Behind the Scenes Tours’ with the RoR team, take place at 11 am and 2.30 pm Tuesday – Sunday.

Tours start in the stunning Rothschild Yard where you’ll meet our ex-racehorses, get to see them in action in the horse-walker and exercising in the Peter O’Sullevan arena. We also have a working forge – and if you’re lucky, you’ll see a farrier working.

8. Visit the Tack Room Restaurant 

The Tack Room Restaurant at NHRM, features the best of British produce, showcasing seasonal and local produce where possible. The Tack Room is open:

Tues to Thurs: 10 am – 5 pm

Fri and Saturday: 10 am – 9 pm

Sunday: 10 am – 4 pm Sunday lunch served for 12-3 pm

9. Halloween @ the Bakery

The bakery located in the King’s Yard sells a range of cakes, pastries, cold and hot drinks. Halloween specials at the bakery include:

10. Picture in focus: Last Race at Datchet

Our first Picture in Focus display, located on the top floor of Palace House, is a 20th-century copy of the Last Race at Datchet. The top floor of Palace House explores the stories that can be told about this picture showing the final race watched by Charles II, on 24 August 1684 at Windsor.
